Brewer chief of staff takes Arizona university post

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer?s chief of staff Eileen Klein has accepted the position as president of the Arizona Board of Regents.

ABOR Chairman Rick Meyers said Klein?s leadership will greatly contribute to the success of the state?s university system. ABOR oversees Arizona State University in the Phoenix area, Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff and University of Arizona in Tucson.

?She is a seasoned leader with a proven track record of success in managing large, complex organizations and experience in senior management; strategic planning and fiscal management; working with legislative bodies; the ability to analyze state and federal education issues, policy and legislation that will impact the Arizona Higher Education Enterprise,? he said.

Klein was named the only finalist two weeks ago.

She was selected from among three candidates that were interviewed in September, including Mark Killiam, former Speaker of the House, and Dr. Robert Padilla, owner of Clifton Consulting Group LLC, Tucson.

Angela Gonzales covers health, biotech and education.
